Young mountain biker riding off a drop in a mountain bike clinic for teenagers at Manly Dam

MTB Fundamentals for Teens

MTB Fundamentals for Teens: Welcome

Mountain biking is experiencing a huge resurgence amongst teenagers. On our local trails we are seeing more and more young riders loving off-road riding.

With a sport like mountain biking, the rider's level of skill definitely makes a difference to their fun, satisfaction and safety! The sooner young riders are taught correct fundamental techniques, the sooner they can start developing new skills and tricks under their own steam. Without this basic toolkit of skills, progress can be very slow and they wlll soon become frustrated.

Our 3 hour teens fundamentals clinic is designed to be fun and educational for 13-16 year old riders who can already ride, pedal and have good control of a bike. The aim of the clinic is to teach the correct skills for cornering, braking, descending and climbing by teaching body positioning, braking technique, gear selection and pedalling technique. It'll also include an introduction to getting their wheels off the ground.

We know it can be tricky for young riders to find riding buddies and it's not always possible for Mum or Dad to take them out for a ride. So we're adding on a supervised 1.5 hour social ride to the clinic on a future Sunday, where riders can put into practice the skills learnt and have a chance to ride with each other and meet other riders to shred the trails with - once riders have attended a teens clinic they are invited along to the future social rides. Mum and Dad will be welcome to join in too!
