Women's Weekday MTB Skills

MTB Fundamentals for Women: About Me

This program is aimed at intermediate female riders with solid fundamental mountain bike skills, who are looking to improve their riding skills, confidence in rough terrain, and ultimately their enjoyment of riding! Each week we'll learn or refine a skill then head out on to the trail to put it into practice. This structure gives riders the opportunity to progress their riding with the added bonus of forming friendships with potential new riding buddies.

The sessions run throughout the year but will skip most of the school holiday weeks. You can either purchase a class pack or pay as you go - giving you ultimate flexibility to come as much or as little as your schedule allows! You can also attend our Trail Skills Tune Up (Thursdays, 6.30-8.00am) sessions if that suits you occasionally. And, if you're a novice rider, then please check out our Midweek Progression Sessions (Wednesdays, 9.00-10.30am).

Location:

Manly Dam & surrounds, Sydney, NSW

Clinic Dates:

  • Wednesdays (except for school holidays), 7.00-8.30am

What we'll be covering in these sessions:

  • Bike safety & setup - ensuring your bike is mechanically sound, comfortable, and suitably set up for your riding style

  • Body position and weight distribution - understanding the effect of your body position on the bike

  • Balance skills - for control at low speed and in the tight stuff

  • Braking - which brake does what and how to brake

  • Cornering and singletrack technique - learn to rail your favourite singletrack!

  • Ascending & descending - body position, gear selection, line choice

  • Clearing obstacles - unweighting and wheel lifts

Is this clinic for me?

  • For the intermediate program, ideally you will have attended one of our Fundamentals skills clinics (or similar) and have a good grasp of basic mountain biking skills. You have been mountain biking for a while and are ready to expand your range of skills and ride more challenging trail features. For example, if you find yourself walking small sections of the Manly Dam trail or choosing to take the B-lines, then this program is for you!

  • If you're a mountain biker and keen for a weekly session of challenge, fun, and great camaraderie with other women - then yes!

What you'll need to bring:

  • Mountain bike - please make sure your bike is mechanically sound and clean. As well as the more obvious safety points, your bike must have handlebar end plugs fitted.

  • Bike gear - helmet (Australian Standards AS/NZS 2063 approved), gloves, shoes, sunnies

  • Spares & tools - tube, chain link, multi-tool, mini-pump

  • Water - please make sure you bring with you bottles and/or hydration pack full of water

  • Snacks

  • Small group tuition, ensuring plenty of attention for everyone

  • A fun and challenging early morning session on your mountain bike
