Wine, Women and Wheels 30-31 October 2010, Orange, NSW
There's nothing better than a great ride followed by a quality tipple and we're proud to be partnering with the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club (CWORBC) to put on this Wine, Women & Wheels Weekend on 30 & 31 October, in conjunction with Orange Wine Week.
There will be a skills clinic on the Saturday, a riding tour of the region's acclaimed cellar doors, and singletrack galore. While the skills day is for women only, the boys will be very welcome on the winery tour and are also invited to join the locals for a social ride on the Saturday while the girls are put through their paces in the skills day.
Orange, NSW
Just under four hours' drive from both Canberra and Sydney, Orange is known as Australia's Colour City. It's easy to see why with four distinct seasons which are showcased by its many beautiful parks and gardens. The city itself has lots to offer from historic buildings and streetscapes to cosmopolitan cafes, restaurants and theatres. Orange is the highest altitude wine region in Australia and is also renowned for its gourmet regional produce.
The Wine, Women & Wheels weekend is being held in Orange Wine Week, during which there are many wine and food related activities to enjoy - check out the programme on the Taste Orange website.
Cycling in Orange
Being an ancient volcanic region, there is an abundance of hills around Orange including the striking Mount Canobolas, which at 1,395m is the highest peak in a straight line between the Blue Mountains and Perth! However, the rolling hills are what makes for perfect cycling terrain. CWORBC have been instrumental in developing a large network of trails close to Orange with the approval and assistance of Forests NSW, in Kinross State Forest. This is where we'll be holding the skills day and social ride on Saturday 31 October, and we're sure you won't be disappointed with the quality of the riding there!
On the Sunday we'll be riding some of those rolling hills but on the road this time and at a leisurely pace, taking in the beautiful scenery and of course several of the region's acclaimed cellar doors for wine tasting and refreshments along the way.
Mountain Biking Australia recently ran a story on riding in Orange which you can download here (2.4MB) if you haven't already got a copy of this great issue!
Accommodation
There is plenty of accommodation in Orange ranging from boutique motels, guesthouses and bed & breakfasts to farmstays, cabins, caravans and camping in nature reserves. See www.visitorange.com.au for more information and to book. We advise that you book early as accommodation will be in high demand on that weekend due to Wine Week.

We'd like to say a big thank you to Sonja Pike for creating the fantastic Wine, Women & Wheels logo shown above. Sonja is a previous attendee of a women's skills clinic so we are stoked to have her design the logo for this event - we love it!
