Yellomundee Regional Park, Yarramundi, hosted by Western Sydney MTB Club - Sunday 13 June 2010
Western Sydney MTB Club
Western Sydney MTB Club (WSMTB) is one of the three largest MTB clubs in Australia and is the main MTB club in Sydney. Started in 1988, it is also one of the oldest clubs in Australia and has been the nursery for riders such as XC and endurance legend Craig Gordon and former DH Junior World Champ and 2003 DH World Cup Champion Nathan Rennie. Focusing on XC, DH and 4X, competition venues include Yellomundee Regional Park in the small town of Yarramundi, Del Rio Resort near Wisemans Ferry and the superb Blue Gum Lodge in the Blue Mountains.
The Course
The venue for the Round 3 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series - Protected by Brave Soldier is Yellomundee Regional Park, Yarramundi. First used in 1989, the Yellomundee track is revered by Sydney’s MTB community. Yellomundee has seen events ranging from National XC races and State DH championships to WSMTB’s regular XC club rounds. The track will likely be around the 9km mark in length, and is characterised by a technical first section of trail winding and climbing along the bottom of the Blue Mountains escarpment, and fast and flowing singletrack broken up by the occasional tight corner for the remainder of the lap. Like many MTB tracks, it might not have a monster climb but the constant undulations quickly add up!
Check out the proposed course here - why not head up for a practice lap or two before the weekend itself?

Yellomundee Regional Park is sandwiched between the eastern escarpment of the Blue Mountains and the Nepean River, north-west of Penrith. See this Google Maps link for more information and how to get there.
Entries
Entries for Round 3 of the Singletrack Mind Series are now closed. Contact us on 0457 084 552 to see if on-the-day entries are possible. Substitute riders are allowed - all substitute riders must download, fill out and bring the Replacement Rider Form to Registration. Yellomundee Regional Park - specific conditions for users
Yellomundee is a Regional Park, managed by National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS). We are privileged to be able to use this venue as it is classified as an Endangered Ecological Community (EEC), and is culturally significant to the Aboriginal community as it lies within the traditional territory of the Boorooberongal clan of the Darug people. As such, with the consent to use Yellomundee as a venue for a major event comes a number of conditions which we ask all competitors and supporters to adhere to:
Tents and other shelters may only be erected in areas of the park shown to you by event officials
Please do not tie anything to trees, including guy ropes, banner strings, etc.
No fires allowed
No dogs or other domestic animal are allowed within the Park
You are encouraged to use plastic containers instead of glass within the Park
There will be NO rubbish collection service at this round - please bring a garbage bag with you and take home what you bring in.
For more information about Yellomundee Regional Park and other activities available in addition to cycling, please see the NPWS website.
Camping, Parking & Carpooling
As this venue is a Regional Park, there is no camping on site at Yellomundee. Please see below for details on accommodation nearby.
There is also limited parking at the venue so competitors and their supporters are strongly encouraged to carpool. For Sydney riders, there is a great alternative to driving to the event - Will from mtnbike.com.au is offering return transport on Sunday 13 June, departing from Bike Bug in North Sydney at 5.30am. The cost for this transport is just $35 and places are limited to 15 people and their bikes - click here for more info and how to book.
Accommodation & Dining
There are plenty of great accommodation and dining options in nearby Richmond, Penrith and Faulconbridge. See the Hawkesbury Tourism website for more details.

What To Bring
Except for the obvious (bike, helmet, race food, toolkit & spares), you might want to bring a pop-up tent for shelter beside the track, and a chair to relax in between laps. You'll need to have some drinking water - we will have a 1000l tank available, however we can't guarantee that this will last. Please also bring a garbage bag, as we are unable to provide rubbish collection at this round.
MTBA members must present their membership card at Registration, and riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the event waiver on their behalf.
Results
Results will be available live during the event at www.onlineresults.com.au and PDF files posted here after each round.
Volunteers
We're looking for willing people to join our event crew - if you'd like to volunteer to help us out on race day we'd really appreciate it! The type of roles for volunteers might be marshalling, Registration, event centre set up, assisting with timing, etc. Volunteers will be well looked after during the event, and hopefully you'll find it gratifying to know you've helped the participants have a fun day on their bikes!
If you'd like to be involved, please fill out this form to register. Note that you can select your availability for each round on the form.
