Wingello State Forest, NSW Southern Highands, hosted by Southern Highlands Cycling Club - Sunday 21 August 2011
Southern Highlands Cycling Club
The Southern Highlands Cycling Club (SHCC) is a thriving club which offers a packed annual race calendar in the disciplines of mountain biking, road and track and also regular training and social rides. The Club utilises four mountain bike tracks in the Southern Highlands: Welby, Wingello State Forest, Fitzroy Falls, and a short track circuit at Bong Bong racecourse near Bowral.
The Course
The venue for Round 4 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series is Wingello State Forest.
The proposed circuit at Wingello commences with a short section of fire road before heading into perfect singletrack. The singletrack mostly winds through forest, with some rocks, a few short sharp climbs and various logs thrown in to keep everyone happy. Five sections of single track are linked by short bursts of fire road, giving everyone plenty of opportunities for passing. Some of the trails are long and straight, gathering speed, while others twist and turn, with lots of potential to display good cornering skills.
The surface of the trail is forest floor providing ideal riding in most conditions. One section of the track gets pretty muddy, but this of course depends on weather. Most of the course is dry. The start and finish of the trail are at the Airfield – a large flat area of ground which is accessible by fire road. Entrance to the Airfield is possible with all vehicles, however care must be taken as the fire roads can be rutted and very bumpy.
A GPS trace of the proposed course can be found here, and a preview vid of the course is below.
Also, check out this footage we shot at the James Williamson Enduro Challenge, which took place at Wingello in March and takes in all of the singletrack we'll be using in the Singletrack Mind Series event.
Entries for Round 4 of the Singletrack Mind Series are now now closed. Contact us on 0457 084 552 to see if on-the-day entries are possible - please call, we won't reply to SMS! Substitute riders are allowed. All substitute riders must download, fill out and bring the Replacement Rider Form to Registration. If your new rider is not a MTBA member they will need to pay $20 (cash only) for a MTBA day licence even if the rider they are replacing has already paid for a day licence online – the insurance policy always stays with the individual. Day licences are not transferable BUT the unused day licence will be refunded to the rider who originally paid for it in online entry – minus a buck ($1) for administration.

Camping is available from 1.00pm on Saturday 20 August, and you have two options for camping locations:
Wingello Forest Camp which is approximately 1km from the Event Centre and will be signed on your way towards the Event Centre. Here you'll find a toilet only so bring your own supply of water, and you can also have fires in the fireplaces provided. We'd recommend this area if you or your partner/family would like to sleep beyond 6am, or wish to arrive after dark. Exact location of the Forest Camp is shown on this Google Map.
Event centre – event signage will direct you to the Event Centre, and you will be advised at Rego of where you may pitch your tent. Note that you’ll need to arrive before dark. Campervans and vehicles in general are not to be parked next to the track for obvious reasons of safety. There will be toilets and a limited supply of water here. Exact location of the Event Centre is shown on this Google Map.
Event Parking will be at the Event Centre, which will be signed from the Forest entrance, and SHCC volunteers will be directing the parking arrangements on Sunday morning.

Team, Club and Sponsored Tents
This is a tricky little issue and obviously the great sponsors who make these events happen deserve full prominence for all that they invest in the series. Likewise, the brands and shops that sponsor the riders also deserve to be able to display with a team tent or a banner. So, from this event forward we're going to have a event sponsors-only zone for transition close to the Event Centre. Only Singletrack Mind Series sponsor affiliated tents will be permitted within the zone and it will be marked so there's no confusion. Should there be space remaining, mountain bike club representative teams will be given first priority and non-logo'd team tents second priority. In practice this really won't have any great effect on you, the riders, but we thought it best to have a clear policy on this.
Series T-Shirt
To remind you of many great days on the bike, we’ve worked with our designer to produce a corker of a t-shirt that tells the world what’s on, or should we say what’s in your mind – your singletrack mind! This striking design is available to order with event entry for the princely sum of $23, and you’ll pick it up at Rego. We'll also have some available to purchase at the event for $25 (cash only). Available in any colour you like as long as it’s green, but it does come in both mens and ladies styles. Check out a larger image here! (Note: if you've already entered and wish to add a t-shirt to your order,

As for dining, there are quite a few options in Bundanoon (pub & club meals, pizza, Chinese).
