2012 Series Wrap & 2013 Venues
It's mid-January! How did that happen? Must be that last year was such a blur of bikes, fun places to ride, millions of events (not just ours) and general bike-themed good times ... hopefully it was the same for you too!
We hope you and your families had a great festive season and would like to thank you for your support of another successful year of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series.
With a super packed calendar already in 2013 it's hard not to say that mountain biking is in very fine shape at the moment. In rude health one might say but in response to the increasingly-stacked MTB race calendar, we've decided to go back to the original format of 5 races. This should also make the task of competing across the whole Series more achievable for more people.
Please read below our 2012 Series Wrap and the highly anticipated anouncement of 2013 dates & locations!
SRAM Singletrack Mind - 2012 Series Wrap
As much as we know you love singletrack we also know that there's nothing better that fresh singletrack! We like to keep the Series as fresh and exciting as possible so last year three out of the six rounds were at entirely new locations! The one we were most surprised about was the Series opener in Kinross Forest at Orange. "Build it at they will come" as they say, and come you did - over 300 of you! We like Kinross so much we've decided to make it the Series Finale in 2013.
Big props to the Kowalski Bros and Paul Cole for making the great tracks at Kowen for Round 2. Coondoo Rd never disappoints and so many riders said they loved Round 3. Welby was a new venue, opinion was split about whether they liked it but it did make for a 'solid' day out and some great racing! Round 4 saw us back at Rydal, loved by those who figured out the way to ride this serpentine beast, one for the thinkers maybe? What can be said about Awaba? It's just freakin' awesome, big props to HMBA for creating such a jewel! Despite the heat, Awaba was a stack of fun and again a great way to end the Series!
Serial Offenders: We really enjoy seeing so many regular faces at the events. We started 2012 with more double the amount of riders signing up for the serial offenders deal, and by year's end 69 riders had entered all 6 rounds and 117 signed up for at least 5 rounds! To reward those who, through ambition or passion, just can't get enough of the Series we had our Serial Offenders draw. Paul Turnbull and Rachel Wilkinson scored a bag of goodies each for being such great sports all season!
You would have been aware that just by entering any event in the series or other affiliated events, you also go into the draw for the Mountain Biking Australia/Toyota Golden Ticket giveaway. This year the total prize pool is $15000! So even if you didn't win a cracker at the races you still could be a HUGE winner! The draw is slated for March and you'll read all about in Mountain Biking Australia Magazine.
A Year in Images: We were really stoked to again have Dave Bateman shooting the Series in his inimitable way. He's collated all his best images from the Series and jammed then all into a slide show for your enjoyment: http://vimeo.com/57357853
Series Results: After a magnificent year of racing take time to check out the Series results and, if you haven't already, send a Strava-style email to your foes to say “Ha! Beat you!”

Massive thanks to everyone! 2012 was a great year for Chocolate Foot and our events but we could not do it without the assistance of lots of wonderful individuals, MTB clubs, and companies.
We are blessed to have a dedicated and hard working (if a little quirky) band of regular volunteers. We'd like to thank all of them: Josh, Gumby, Mike, Kelly, Jase, Addie as well as all the vollies who helped us at particular events. Solo racer Elvio Fernandes excelled himself in this regard as he helped us out a few times and invited us to his amazing race night BBQs!
Huge thanks to all the host clubs and Kowalski Bros for providing us with such rockin' singletrack and hassle-free venues, and to Steve Martin for providing his fantastic, live-to-the-web, transponder timing service.
Thanks to our awesome sponsors: It's not an overstatement to say that without the support of all our brilliant sponsors the Series wouldn't happen. If you won a prize by riding a bike, eating chocolate or standing in the right place at the right time, then thank one or all of these great brands:
SRAM, RockShox, Avid, Truvativ, Mountain Biking Australia Magazine, Giant, Hammer Nutrition, Serfas, Cycology, Jimmy Jack Wines, Kenda Tyres, Muc-Off Lubes and cleaners, The Body Mechanic, Frameskin, Keep It Together, Aussie Butt & Zerofive Custom Sportswear.
2013 Series Dates & Locations
We've just finalised all the details for the five rounds that will make up the 2013 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series. We're excited to be taking you to one new venue and four well-loved locations this year.
Round 1, 28 April: The Series will kick off in fine style at our new venue, Taree! The Manning Great Lake Tip Riders MTB Club (crikey, that's a mouthful!) can't wait to welcome us to the highly-acclaimed Taree singletrack on the weekend of 27 & 28 April. Get your leave pass booked pronto, this is a venue not to be missed!
Round 2, 26 May: The fast and flowy Coondoo Road trails in Nowra will be home to this round, hosted by the South Coast Mountainbikers. This venue has been on the Series calendar every year because everyone loves it!
Round 3, 23 June: Awaba MTB Park is a perennial favourite and, as we found last year, pretty tough when the heat is on! It's been the scene for the Series final over the past 2 years but in 2013 we're putting it slap bang in the middle of the Series!
Round 4, 20 October: The Southern Highlands MTB Club are an industrious lot having built Welby from scratch! And while it's a fine collection of trails already, they listened to your feedback after last year's race and have set about making Welby even more awesome for 2013!
Round 5, 24 November: Kinross was a highly anticipated opener for 2012 so it's fitting that it becomes the Series Finale in 2013. The Central West Off-Road Bicycle Club trail fairies are looking forward to hosting the celebration of another great Series of racing!
Congratulations to all of you for your spirited racing and good vibes throughout the 2012 Series, whether you've been on the podium, racing your mates, or trying out racing for the first time - and we sincerely thank you for your support.
We look forward to welcoming you to a Chocolate Foot event in 2013!
