Round Four

corc-logo-stmStromlo Forest Park, Canberra, hosted by Canberra Off-Road Cyclists - Sunday 29 August 2010

Established in 1988, Canberra Off-Road Cyclists (CORC) is the largest mountain bike club in Australia and offers a variety of competitive and social activities for riders of all ages and abilities. The club runs about 70 racing events each year, ranging from weekly dirt-crits to the biggest 24hour race in the world, the Scott 24. Arms of the club look after regular Downhill events as well as Four Cross and Olympic format Cross Country.

It's a big week for MTB racing in Canberra as the 2010 ACT Schools MTB Championships are taking place just before our event on 26-27 August and we're looking forward to seeing lots of young riders staying on to form Junior 4's teams at the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series!

The Course

The venue for the Round 4 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series - Protected by Brave Soldier is Stromlo Forest Park. Stromlo Forest Park is a purpose-built mountain biking facility, which includes a World Championship DH track, a 4X track, a Trials area and 33km of XC mountain bike trails catering for all levels. The XC trails offer lots of variety of course settings, and our CORC course setter has been creative using very little of the trunk trail and designing a course that's hard but fair, favouring good bike handlers. You'll be very happy to hear trail names like Skyline, Berm track, Blackberry climb and Slant 6 to keep you entertained for the entirety of the course. Check it out here. Note that this is the current proposed course, but due to anticipated entry numbers we expect to extend it and will post a revised course trace as it becomes available. Practice on the official course will be available on the weekend itself as per the schedule below.

Check out the awesome Stromlo trails with the crew from CORC!

Entries

Entries for Round 4 of the Singletrack Mind Series are now now closed. Contact us on 0457 084 552 to see if on-the-day entries are possible. Substitute riders are allowed - all substitute riders must download, fill out and bring the Replacement Rider Form to Registration. If your new rider is not a MTBA member they will need to pay $15 (cash only) for a MTBA day licence even if the rider they are replacing has already paid for a day licence online – the insurance policy always stays with the individual. Day licences are not transferable BUT the unused day licence will be refunded to the rider who originally paid for it in online entry – minus a buck ($1) for administration.

Please Note: You will be able to park in the main carpark BUT as there is also a road cycling event using the main access road into Stromlo Forest Park (from Uriarra Rd) AND the MTB course will cut access to the main carpark, once you are parked in the main carpark you ain't moving until 11.30am (or until the course is cleared) when the main entry is re-opened. Probably not an issue for the vast majority of you but important to know in any case. For those who will need to leave before 11.30am and for overflow parking you can park in the "volunteers" carpark which is on the left side of the access road as you come in.

What To Bring

Except for the obvious (bike, helmet, race food, toolkit & spares), you might want to bring a pop-up tent for shelter beside the track, and a chair to relax in between laps. Kerry from our light sponsor K-Lite will be hosting a night ride on Saturday evening kicking off at 7.00pm, so bring your own lights or demo a set of brilliant K-Lites! These have proven to be very popular so get in early to reserve a set. You'll need to be registered for the event (and thus insured) so make sure you arrive in time to register.

MTBA members must present their membership card at Registration, and riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the event waiver on their behalf.

Results

Live results will be available at www.onlineresults.com.au during the event and PDF files posted here after each round.

Volunteers

We're looking for willing people to join our event crew - if you'd like to volunteer to help us out on race day we'd really appreciate it! The type of roles for volunteers might be marshalling, Registration, event centre set up, assisting with timing, etc. Volunteers will be well looked after during the event, and hopefully you'll find it gratifying to know you've helped the participants have a fun day on their bikes!

If you'd like to be involved, please fill out this form to register. Note that you can select your availability for each round on the form.
